EAMON ZAYED SIMPLY can’t stop scoring hat-tricks. Seven weeks on from his heroic treble for Persepolis in the Tehran Derby, the former Derry City striker has done it again.
Zayed grabbed the headlines with another hat-trick as Persepolis beat Al-Shebab of the UAE 6-1 in Group D of the Asian Champions League today.
More than 80,000 fans packed into Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on the second day of the Iranian New Year for Persepolis’ first home game of the 2012 tournament, IRNA reports.
Zayed opened the scoring in the eighth minute when he reacted quickest to a goal-mouth scramble, and doubled his side’s advantage with a cheeky backheel two minutes into the second half.
The Dubliner wrapped up his hat-trick six minutes later when strike-partner Gholamreza Rezaie played him in to put Persepolis 3-0 up.
Piera DaSilva pulled one back for Al-Shabab from the penalty spot in the 56th minute before Rezaie, Ali Karimi and Hossein Fesahgchi rounded out an unforgettable win.
