'Ireland are formidable when they get going': England back Brown aims to keep Ireland at low ebb

Mike Brown expects England’s toughest test of the Six Nations when they face Ireland, despite Joe Schmidt’s side’s stuttering start.

ENGLAND ARE READY for the hardest game of their Six Nations campaign next weekend when Ireland travel to Twickenham, says Mike Brown.

Eddie Jones’ side have begun the 2016 competition with back-to-back wins over Scotland and Italy, the latter a convincing 40-9 success in Rome on Sunday.

The defending champions have not fared as well, though, following up an opening-weekend draw against Wales with a 10-9 defeat to France last time out.

Despite Ireland’s stuttering form, Brown does not believe England will have an easy time when the competition returns.

“Obviously they will be disappointed with their start but they are the top team in Europe,” he told Sky Sports.

“We know in the next two weeks there is a lot of hard work to be put in if we want to get the win we desperately want on our home soil as well.

“We will keep working hard and look at how they play. They are formidable when they get going so we need to make sure we are on our game so we don’t let them do that.”
