English big guns paired up in Champions League quarter-final draw

Chelsea will face Manchester United in the Champions League quarter-finals while Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn against Real Madrid.

THE DRAW FOR the quarter-finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League has thrown up a few mouth-watering prospects with Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester set to do battle for a place among the tournament’s final four.

The route to the final remains uncertain for both sides however as the winner of that all-English showdown may have to face defending champions Inter Milan in the semi-finals.

Having beaten Bayern Munich earlier this week, Inter face another trip to Germany in the next round after they were paired with Schalke 04 in today’s draw in Nyon.

On the other side of the draw, Harry Redknapp and Tottenham Hotspur have been handed the most unattractive of prospects if they are to make this year’s final at Wembley.

Spurs have been drawn against Real Madrid with the winners to face either Barcelona or Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals.

The quarter-final ties will be played on April 5/6 and 12/13, with the semi-finals following on April 26/27 and May 3/4.

This year’s Champions League final takes place at Wembley on May 28.
