Not again! Waterford-Mervue cup tie off due to waterlogged pitch

The tie will now be played next Monday, 3 September, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

TONIGHT’S RESCHEDULED FAI Cup tie between Waterford United and Mervue United has again been postponed due to waterlogged pitch, the FAI confirmed this afternoon.

It is the second time in the space of four days that the game has fallen foul of the weather. Six other third round ties were played last Friday but heavy rain left the pitch at Waterford’s RSC unplayable.

Following a further pitch inspection today, the decision was taken to call off the all-First Division clash for a second time and reschedule for next week.

The tie will now be played next Monday, 3 September, with kick-off at 7.45pm. Replay arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, the draw for the quarter-finals take place this evening live on RTÉ’s MNS (RTÉ 2, 7-8pm).

The draw will be conducted by FAI Vice-President Tony Fitzgerald and Ciaran Kelly, Sligo Rovers goalkeeper and a cup winner in 2010 and in 2011.

The quarter-final ties will be played on the week ending 15/16 September.

  3. Drogheda United
  4. Dundalk
  5. St Patrick’s Athletic
