FAI score 2,300 more tickets for Euro 2012 group games

Association chief John Delaney says the allocation works out at 700-800 tickets per group game.

THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION of Ireland have secured an extra 2,300 extra tickets for Ireland’s games at Euro 2012 this summer.

FAI chief John Delaney says the allocation works out at 700-800 tickets per group game.

“In line with all other participating countries, Ireland has already received 16% of stadium capacity for its matches in Poznan and Gdansk, equating to approximately 18,000 tickets over the three group matches or 6,000 tickets per match,” an FAI statement reads.

“To accommodate the large demand from Irish fans and following discussions with the FAI, UEFA has agreed to release 2,300 additional seats for Irish supporters in Poznan and Gdansk over the three matches. When the FAI receives further details from UEFA in the coming days, these seats will be allocated to the list of supporters who have been already been given passwords to register through the FAI portal on UEFA.com.”

“It’s good news,” Delaney told Sean O’Rourke on the News At One, “We’ve secured 2,300 tickets in total for the Irish fans for the three games.

“It won’t be enough but at least it’s an additional allocation on top of the 6,000 we have already. So in total we’ll be getting a little over 20,000, which is around 7,000 tickets per match. Our allocations have been greater than that but at least it’s something.

“We’ll keep trying. I haven’t given up yet looking for more. First of all we have to wait to see how the Croatian, Spanish and Italian take-up is on the allocation for our games. And it there’s any tickets left over from their allocation, we take them.  We’ll know in early March, I wouldn’t be hopeful in Croatia or Spain as I think they bring good numbers but there might be tickets left over from the Italians.

“And if there are they come straight to us. So, right up until the last minute we’ll still be looking for tickets for our fans. It’s important that we get as many fans into the ground as possible. That’s what we want, that’s what the players want and that’s what the manager would want. ”

Giovanni Trapattoni side face the Czech Republic in a friendly at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow, meanwhile.
