Falcao facing World Cup heartbreak as Colombia striker suffers serious injury

The Monaco forward is likely out of the tournament.

COLOMBIA’S STAR STRIKER Radamel Falcao looks set to miss the World Cup this summer.

The Monaco player was injured in a Cup win over Chasselay last night following a challenge by Soner Ertek.

“Following Wednesday’s injury, Radamel Falcao made a diagnostic examination,” the club say in a statement. “It appears that the player is suffering from trauma in the left knee with lesion of ligament anterior cruciate.

“The player will have surgery in next few days. Doctors will do everything possible to speed up recovery.”

Falcao flew to Portugal after the game last night with was was suspected as a ‘serious ACL tear’.

Chasseley’s club president Jocelyn Fontanel told AFP there had been no malice in Ertek’s tackle.

“There was no aggression,” he insisted.

“Accidents happen on the pitch. It wasn’t violent …

“It upset me the whole match, especially as I was beside the Monaco directors.

“Soner didn’t do it on purpose, we’re not a nasty team. Now there are threats on the internet. I don’t know whether we should take them seriously. I’m very upset for Falcao.”

Falcao joined Monaco for €60 million last summer from Atletico Madrid.
