Sports film of the week: Pelotero

Or ‘ballplayer’ to those of us who don’t speak Spanish.

Released: 2012.

Director: Ross Finkel.

The plot: Miguel and Jean Carlos are two prospective Major League Baseball players, the latest in a long, long line from the Dominican Republic. This film follows them and the corruption which threatens to define their future.

What the critics said: “It’s an eye-opening look at a flawed, potentially exploitative system and how it is being gamed from all sides of the table — the story of the collision of youthful dreams and a cut-throat adult cartel.” – Kenneth Turan, LA Times.

Now, we do try to bring you the movies in full here in this slot, but this movie looks so damn good, we just got a little giddy. We can only show you the trailer here, but there are ways to see it in full – click here.
