THESE DAYS THEY are the biggest names on the senior inter-county hurling stage.

But once they were young lads in the throes of their hurling education.

This year’s Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals take place tomorrow with Waterford IT facing Mary Immaculate College while UCC and UCD go head to head.

The students involved will be seeking to emulate well-known names like Henry Shefflin and Joe Canning who passed their university hurling exams with distinction over the years.
