Five of the most memorable post-game interviews

Brendan Venter is in trouble after another strange interview this weekend. Here’s a few more memorable sideline chats.

SARACENS COACH BRENDAN Venter could find himself in hot water with the ERC yet again after his latest post-match press conference.

Talking to an embarrassed Sky Sports reporter in the wake of his side’s defeat to Racing Metro, the South African gave clipped, strange replies to his questions.

It’s clear that Venter was attempting to make a gesture to tournament officials, having been heavily fined for his comments after the defeat by Leinster at Wembley in October.

The ERC said this morning that they’re looking into the incident. The Telegraph reports that a tournament spokesman said: “All games in round three of both tournaments (Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup) are being reviewed at the moment, as is customary.

Here’s the excruciating conversation:

The interview is the latest, of course, in a long, sorry line of post-match meltdowns. Here’s five of our favourites:

5. ‘I’ll tell you what…”

Keegan’s Newcastle had just beaten Leeds United as the race for the Premiership title with Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United reached fever pitch.

He was reacting to Fergie’s claim that teams try harder against Man U.

Cue this piece of TV gold:

4. ‘I will eat your children’

Mike Tyson’s post-fight interview after he defeated Lou Savarese in June 2000 is the stuff of legend.

At times sentimental, aggressive, puzzling – it’s a scary glimpse into his messed-up mind. Somewhere, Lennox Lewis squirmed in his armchair as he watched on.

3. Cody v Marty

This isn’t quite Iron Mike’s spittle-flecked ringside ramblings, but it’s about as animated as we’ve seen Kilkenny manager Brian Cody get. And this is after he’s won another All-Ireland title.

2. Playoffs!

Mora is still trying to live this one down. The Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Mora has “Playoffs?!” screamed at him every where he goes after this press conference in November 2001.

1. ‘We talkin’ about practice’

Allen Iverson says practice until the word loses all meaning.  I miss this crazy guy.
