A RECENT DOCUMENTARY on Frank O’Farrell, the only Irishman ever to manage Manchester United, has been nominated for Best Sports Programme at this year’s Irish Film and Television Awards.
Frank O’Farrell: The Shadow of Busby, produced by Sean Doyle and Zoogon TV for RTÉ, first aired last month to mark the 40th anniversary of O’Farrell’s 18-month spell at Old Trafford, where he replaced the legendary Matt Busby.
The documentary, which featured an interview with the Cork native as well as archive footage, was announced today as one of four shortlisted programmes in the sporting television category at this year’s IFTAs.
Also nominated was Man on a Mission, Eamonn Coughlan’s journey to Kenya to meet Irish missionary Colm O’Connell who is training 800m World Champion David Rudisha ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games.
Rory’s Major Breakthrough, Stephen Watson’s behind the scenes look at Rory McIlroy’s US Open win, and Pilgrims – The Irish at Cheltenham are the other contenders for the prize, which will be announced on Saturday 11 February.
