Friday Night Lights - GAA to make history with new scheduling

The footballers of Laois and Carlow will meet in the All-Ireland qualifiers on Friday June 28th in Dr Cullen Park.

THE GAA HAVE announced that a senior championship game will be held on a Friday night for the first time when the footballers of Carlow and Laois clash on June 28th.

The teams were paired against each other in this morning’s All-Ireland SFC first round qualifier draw and in a radical new departure for the organization, the game will take place on Friday week at 7.45pm rather than a traditional weekend date.

History will also be made on Sunday June 30th when Derry play an inter-county championship game at their new facility in Owenbeg for the first time when they host Sligo in the first round of the football qualifiers.

The ties between Longford and Limerick, and the meeting of Galway and Tipperary, will take place on Saturday June 29th.

Armagh and Wicklow are set to clash on June 30th while the fixture details for the remaining three games will be confirmed on Monday, June 24th once the Phase 1 teams for the All-Ireland senior hurling championship are known.
