GALWAY UNITED HAVE sealed their Premier Division safety after they played out a 0-0 draw with St Pat’s.

United knew a point would be enough, and they put in a stubborn performance to keep a clean sheet against a Pat’s side that failed to threaten.

It was a feisty start at Eamonn Deacy Park, as both sides roared into challenges. The game then fell into a pattern of Pat’s dominating possession and attempting to break United down.

Gianfranco Facchineri’s header into the grateful arms of Joseph Anang was the Tribesmen’s most threatening action.

For all of Pats’ dominance on the ball, they failed to trouble Hugo Pires da Cunha. The Portuguese goalkeeper was first called into action after half an hour, when he collected Aidan Keena’s long-range effort.

In the second half, the game’s energy increased.

Pat’s went more direct, launching balls into the United penalty area. The ball broke to Keena, whose strike was cleared off the line by Connor Barratt.

United replied through Jimmy Keohane, but his effort failed to test Anang.

The hosts looked the most threatening in transition as Pat’s huffed and puffed.

The result spells a massive success for Caulfield’s side, who were among the favourites for the drop at the beginning of the season.

It’s back to the drawing board for Stephen Kenny, whose team are stumbling over the finish line of this Premier Division campaign with their title hopes officially over and are now winless in their last three games.
