REPUBLIC OF IRELAND’S Gavin Bazunu has joined Belgian club Standard Liege from Southampton on loan until the end of the season.

The Ireland goalkeeper recently returned to action with Southampton after recovering from a ruptured Achilles which he suffered last April. The former Shamrock Rovers player featured three times for the Southampton U21s, keeping two clean sheets in Premier League 2.

He now links up with Standard Liege who are seventh on the Belgian Pro League table as he continues to battle for the Ireland number one jersey with Caoimhín Kelleher.

Bazunu joins a strong Irish contingent at Liege. Amber Barrett has starred for the women’s team of late, with Claire O’Riordan and Aoife Colvill also on the books there.
