Trapattoni not interested in Lazio job as he eyes World Cup role
The former Ireland boss does not fancy punching in from 9 to 5 each day and working weekends to boot.

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI IS reportedly set to turn down the chance to get back into club management with Lazio.

The Serie A side are using the Christmas break to scout for coaches to replace the under pressure Vladimir Petkovic. Lazio are languishing at 10th in the table at present and lost 4-1 to Verona in their last match before the festive break.

Sky Sport Italia are reporting that the former Ireland boss, who has also coached Fiorentina and Juventus, is the prime candidate to steady the ship. The Italian broadcaster states that contact has been made with Trapattoni.

The 74-year-old, however, is not said to be keen to return to the day-to-day activities of club management. Trapattoni is seeking out work with national teams and has set his sights on getting involved with a country competing at the World Cup next summer.

Earlier this month, the Italian told Gazzaetta dello Sport: “I’ve had offers to close the season with club sides, but I’m not a stop-gap boss. I’m evaluating a number of offers. I’ll certainly sit on the bench of a national side again because I’m too young for a desk job. I could even be at the World Cup.”
