Given steps off the bench at Manchester City as fee is agreed with Villa

Ireland’s Shay Given is set to become a footballer again, after Aston Villa agreed a fee with Manchester City for his services.

SHAY GIVEN IS on his way to Aston Villa, after the Midlands club agreed a fee for his transfer with Manchester City, according to Sky Sports.

The Donegal native did not play a single minute of Premier League football last season, having lost his first-team spot to Joe Hart at City, and is eager to restart his playing career at the age of 35.

Given, who has won 113 caps for the Republic of Ireland, only made for cup appearances for City last season and, tellingly, started more international than club games.

The former Newcastle stopper has two years left on his City deal and, while a fee has not been confirmed, it is thought to be around the £3.5million mark.

New Villa manager Alex McLeish has been on the lookout for a replacement goalkeeper for Brad Friedel, who joined Tottenham earlier this summer.
