The Premier League champions, who won the title in dramatic fashion on the final day of last season, will visit Ireland for a preseason friendly and will bring a full strength squad to take on Pat Scully’s side on Sunday, August 5 –  one week before they meet Chelsea in the Community Shield.

At a press conference this morning, club chairman Pat O’Sullivan announced that Munster’s Thomond Park will host the match in what is a major coup for the city two years after the FAI and the Airticity League forced the club to cancel a proposed friendly with Barcelona.
