No retrospective action as Glenn Whelan gets away with horror tackle on Javi Garcia

‘It’s the English game, the old-fashioned game,’ the Dubliner said.

IRELAND MIDFIELDER Glenn Whelan will not face retrospective action from the English FA in the wake of his horror tackle on Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia at the weekend.

The referee Howard Webb didn’t even book the Stoke man at the time and officials can only take action retrospectively for incidents not seen by match officials.

“I’ve gone in for the challenge and I don’t think I tried to be dirty but if it looks that way on TV then I’ll have to hold my hands up,” the Dubliner said afterwards. “I don’t think I caught him as much as he was rolling about. It’s the English game, the old-fashioned game, and that’s what the Premier League is so good for.”
