Good news as Tito Vilanova heading back to Spain after New York cancer treatment

‘Barca have recovered their leader. Welcome home, Tito,’ a club statement reads.

BARCELONA COACH Tito Vilanova will return to Spain this week after spending two months in New York recovering from cancer therapy.

The 44-year-old underwent surgery on parotid gland cancer in December and left for the United States for further treatment at the start of the year.

A Barcelona statement read: “FC Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova will return home this week. He left on 21 January for treatment in New York and two months later, this week, Vilanova will leave the Big Apple to return to the Catalan capital.

“During his absence, Jordi Roura took the reins of the team and was in constant contact with Vilanova, agreeing all decisions. His seat on the bench for the first team is still booked. Barca have recovered their leader. Welcome home, Tito.”

Vilanova took charge of Barcelona in the close season of 2012 and guided the Catalans to their best-ever La Liga start before being struck by health issues.
