'We’re not waiting anymore': Dana White says GSP comeback title fight v Bisping is off

Bisping now set to defend his middleweight title against Yoel Romero.

GEORGE ST-PIERRE’S planned comeback fight against Michael Bisping is off, according to UFC boss Dana White.

GSP announced plans to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon earlier this year and was immediately lined up for a mouthwatering title shot against reigning middleweight champion Bisping.

UFC bosses hoped that fight would be scheduled for July but those plans were scuppered when the Canadian legend indicated that he would not be ready to fight until late this year, a delay which would hold up the entire 185lbs division.

Bisping will now defend his title against Yoel Romero instead, White said, as was originally planned before GSP agreed his four-fight comeback deal. The British fighter’s only title defence to date was last October when he picked up a unanimous decision against Dan Henderson.

“The thing was supposed to happen in July,” White said in an exclusive interview with Fox Sports Australia.

“Michael Bisping is going to have to defend his title now. We’re not waiting for GSP.”

He added: “Georges St-Pierre is saying he will not be ready to compete now until November. Who knows if that’s even the case. It could be next year.

“So we’re not waiting for Georges St-Pierre anymore. We’re moving on with the division, and Yoel Romero will get the next shot.”
