Richard Dunne 'ain't no slouch' says Harry Redknapp

QPR also today announced the signing of an Irish youth international.

QPR MANAGER HARRY Redknapp has praised Richard Dunne after a man-of-the-match performance against Burnley at the weekend.

Dunne helped the London side to a 2-0 win that saw them climb out of the bottom three and his performance led Redknapp to single him out for praise.

“I took Dunney on a free when nobody wanted him last season in the Championship,” said Redknapp.

“When I picked him up he was out of work basically. He hadn’t played a game for Villa the year before through injury and we took a gamble on him.

“He came very much on an appearance related contract and he has been amazing.”

In the past Dunne has received criticism for being too slow but Redknapp believes that is not the case, calling him “deceiving quick”.

“He’s a competitor, he’s strong in the air but people think he’s slow. He’s not as quick as he was but in his prime he was lightning quick.

“I’ve had coaches in the past say to me he can’t run but I’ve said you’ve got the wrong guy – he’s deceiving quick. He’s not as quick now but the boy ain’t no slouch.”

Meanwhile, QPR have completed the signing of Ireland youth international Jake Mulraney.

The 18 year-old winger will link-up with Steve Gallen’s Elite Development Squad after agreeing terms until the end of June 2015.

The Dubliner, who has represented the Republic at Under-17 and Under-19 level, was nominated for last season’s Football Association of Ireland (FAI) Under-17 Player of the Year Award.
