Higgins faces nervy finish at Q School

Waterville’s David Higgins is just inside the cut-off point ahead of tomorrow’s final day of qualifying for the European Tour.

DAVID HIGGINS HAS no room for error if he is to win back his European Tour card on tomorrow’s decisive day at Q School.

With 18 holes to play in Girona, Higgins is in a tie for 22nd and hovering dangerously close to the cut-off point for a place on the Tour’s main circuit next season.

The Waterville native bogeyed the 18th hole for a penultimate round of level par 72, leaving him on five-under after five days at the PGA Catalunya Resort. Only the top 25 players and ties after tomorrow’s final round will qualify for Tour membership.

Higgins, who celebrates his 40th birthday on Saturday, last held a full Tour card in 2006.

A cluster of eight players are currently one shot outside the mark on four-under par with the familiar faces of Peter Hedblom, Alexander Levy and Oliver Wilson ominously poised to challenge on three-under.

England’s John Parry leads the way on 17-under par following a brilliant round of six-under 66 on the tougher Stadium Course today.
