FOLLOWING A TRIAL during the Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cup finals in February, the GAA have decided to delay any further implementation of the clock and hooter system until 2015.
The decision was made after the presentation of a report on the impact of the new system was presented to a meeting of Central Council in Croke Park today.
The report indicated that rule systems would be required if the system is to operate as intended.
Further piloting of the system will take place in the Higher Education Leagues later this year before any relevant motions to change rules will be put before Congress in 2015.
Elsewhere, Central Council also decided to defer the implementation of the rule change on minor age eligibility — which would end the practice of U-16s playing minor inter-county hurling and football — until 2015.
The decision was taken in light of the number of players already selected for current panels who would be affected.
The late inclusion of Fingal into the Nicky Rackard Cup competition necessitated a revised draw which will see Roscommon and Donegal square off in the Preliminary Round with Round One as follows: Tyrone v Sligo; Fingal v Louth; Preliminary Rd winners v Monaghan.
Central Council also revealed that a revised motion to deal with so-called ‘Anthony Nash’ style frees will also be sent forward to next year’s Congress.
