HOPE SOLO, GOALKEEPER for the United States women’s national team, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning after allegedly assaulting her sister and nephew.
The 32 year-old, who plays with Seattle Reign FC in America’s National Women’s Soccer League was held without bail at a local jail and faces a mandatory court appearance next Monday.
According to reports, Solo, an Olympic champions with the US in 2012 and a beaten World Cup finalist the previous year, was at her home and got into an argument with relatives during a family party.
Police were called after an emergency call was made claiming Solo was ‘hitting people’ and could not be restrained.
A local lieutenant was quoted as saying:
“There was a big party going on at her house. It was an out-of control situation.”
Two years ago, Solo was involved in another incident when police arrested her then-boyfriend, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, for allegedly assaulting her. Hours after Stevens appeared in court, the pair were married.
In recent years, Solo has become a minor celebrity in the US, owing to the women’s national team’s success. She’s appeared on hugely popular TV show Dancing with the Stars and released her autobiography in 2012.
