Ireland's World Cup qualifier against the North will be available to watch on BBC Red Button

Ireland open their campaign in Armagh on Tuesday night.

The Republic of Ireland women’s national team face Northern Ireland in their opening 2019 World Cup qualifier at Mourneview Park in Lurgan tomorrow evening (Kick-off 7.30pm)

IRELAND’S WORLD CUP qualifier away to Northern Ireland will be shown live on the BBC Red Button on Tuesday, the broadcaster has confirmed.

Colin Bell’s side travel to Lurgan’s Mourneview Park as they open their campaign to reach France 2019, with the North looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat in Norway last week.

It was initially believed that the fixture would not be shown on television on either side of the border or indeed the Irish Sea, but BBC have confirmed that it will be available to watch through their Red Button service.

BBC Red Button is available on most digital televisions or set top boxes. The service can be accessed by pressing the red button on your remote via Freeview, satellite or cable television.

“It’s great to see what the BBC are doing and the increasing coverage of the women’s game,” said Northern Ireland manager Alfie Wylie.

“But it’s totally deserved. These are elite sports people.”

Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe said of the clash in Armagh: “It’s a huge occasion and there is a real buzz in the squad ahead of the game. We’ve had an excellent camp and trained really well. Everyone is fresh and raring to go.

“It’s always exciting at the start of a new campaign and you can tell everyone is really up for it, and obviously, it’s a great way to start a new campaign.

“The new players have come into the squad and slotted in really well. The standard has been really high out there so we really just want to get going now.”
