Imitation is...: Real Madrid sign a seven-year-old Argentinian named Leo
AS BARCELONA CONTINUE to wow the footballing world, Real Madrid have taken a leaf out their rivals’ playbook and signed their very own diminutive Argentinian named Leo.
The Associated Press reports that seven-year-old Leonel Angel Coira will start training with the Spanish giants next month. Madrid have denied reports that Coira is the youngest player ever signed by the club.
In an interview with Argentinian daily Olé, Coira revealed that the older Lionel — Messi — is his footballing idol and that he would prefer to provide an assist rather than score a goal himself.
Although it is quite unusual for European clubs to sign South American youngsters at this age, Real’s hand was forced as neighbours Atletico prepared to swoop in and steal Coira for themselves.
