A MONTH AFTER falling to their lowest ever position, Ireland have dropped even further down the FIFA world rankings.
For the first time since the table was started in 1993, the Boys in Green last month found themselves in 59th position thanks to World Cup qualifier defeats to Sweden and Austria.
Since then, Ireland have seen any hopes of a play-off spot for next year’s World Cup ended by a 3-0 loss to Germany in Cologne before they finished the campaign with a win by beating Kazakhstan 3-1 in Dublin on Tuesday night.
Those results mean a drop of one place to 60th position behind Australia, Albania and Cameroon and just ahead of Libya.
World and European champions Spain are still top but Germany have reclaimed second place from Argentina while Colombia and Belgium are up to forth and fifth respectively after qualifying for next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
England, meanwhile, jump seven places to tenth, Scotland are up 28 places thanks to victory over Croatia, Wales hold 44th place and Northern Ireland are 90th.
