It's official: Ireland to face France in Paris on 4 March

Tournament officials met this afternoon to decide on details for the fixture and resisted French calls to push it out until September.

Updated 5.07pm

IRELAND’S POSTPONED SIX Nations game with France will be played on 4 March at 3pm Irish time, it has been confirmed.

Tournament officials met this afternoon to decide on details for the fixture and later held a press conference at 5pm to reveal their decision.

It means Declan Kidney’s men will have a seven-day turnaround between games, with Italy in Dublin for a February 25 showdown. They will then face Scotland six days after their second Paris trip.

“We are delighted that we have agreed a new date within the Six Nations window for the match between France and Ireland,” said Six Nations Rugby Ltd chief executive John Feehan. “We are also delighted that the FFR have announced a ticket refund scheme.”

The news comes after the French rugby federation supported calls by Top 14 clubs to defer the game until September.

Saturday’s match at the Stade de France was called off minutes before kick-off when referee Dave Pearson ruled the Parisian pitch unplayable due to freezing conditions.

Tickets for Saturday’s postponed game will be eligible for the refixed date, the FFR confirmed. The Six Nations Council have also confirmed that ticket-holders unable to attend the match will receive a full refund.

“Final details of the refund mechanism should be available tomorrow,” a statement reads.
