A LITTLE-KNOWN Spanish journalist by the name of Siro Lopez has triggered a wave of speculation regarding the future of Real Madrid manager José Mourinho after claiming the 48-year-old had already resolved to leave the Spanish giants in June.
Lopez made the statement during an episode of Punto Pelotas, a weekly football show, and suggested the information originated with a member of the coach’s inner circle.
Catalan sports daily AS subsequently published a summary of the comments, saying:
“Mourinho has had enough. According to Siro Lopez, who appeared on Punto Pelotas last night, the Real coach has changed radically in recent days and has ‘decided to leave Real Madrid on June 30′…“Siro claims that Mourinho’s frustration with the opposition press has reached breaking point. Leaks originating within the Madrid dressing room, like those allegedly in touch with Lopez, could prove the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
The popularity of the Portuguese within Madrid has dipped considerably since his side’s unimaginative display against rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Cup last week.
