AN ARTICLE BY Mark McCadden in today’s Daily Star claims that Reading striker Shane Long, whose future has been the subject of significant pre-season interest, could find himself on the books at West Bromich Albion as early as this evening.
With the clubs believed to have settled on a transfer fee of nearly £6m, all that remains is for the Tipperary man to agree personal terms with his new employers. Though currently on international duty with Ireland, it’s thought that he’ll sign a four-year contract worth somewhere in the region of £25,000-per-week later on today.
The article quotes an unnamed club insider as saying:
“Roy Hodgson is a huge admirer of Shane’s and he was so determined to get him before the start of the season.”
The dynamic front-man will partner Simon Cox against Croatia on Wednesday night.
