IT’S THE FINAL day of the January transfer window so sit back and let the rumours roll in.

Between now and 11pm this evening, we’ll bring you all the sightings, whispers, tittle-tattles and maybe even some genuine news of moves in between all the fanfare.

  • Ireland international Aiden McGeady joins Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the season.
  • Ex-Dundalk forward Pat Hoban moves to Stevenage.
  • Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy joins French side Bordeaux on loan.
  • Federico Fazio is on the way back to Sevilla on a loan deal from Tottenham.
  • Oumar Niasse has joined Everton for £13.5 million (€17.9 million) to Lokomotiv Moscow.
  • Jordan Rhodes moves to Middlesbrough from Blackburn Rovers for £11 million (€14.5 million).
  • Steven Fletcher goes to Marseille on loan from Sunderland.
  • Stoke make Porto’s Giannelli Imbula their record signing.

Good afternoon football fans. It’s that day of the year again and we’ll be here late into the night to ensure you’re kept abreast of all the developments.

As is so often the case, there’s not a lot happening apart from a few loan deals here and there and Tony Cascarino, Alan Curbishley and Ray Wilkins going around in circles to fill air time on Sky Sports News.

BUT when something actually happens, you’ll hear about it right here. As always, we love to hear from you so get in touch via the following ways. E-mail ryan@the42.ie, tweet @the42_ie, post a message to our Facebook wall, or leave a comment below.

Wow, what a start!

We’re literally just underway and there’s a done deal to bring you news of. Celtic have completed the 18-month loan signing of Patrick Roberts from Manchester City.

The 18-year-old moved to Eastlands from Fulham during the summer for £12 million and has now been sent to Scotland to gain first-team experience.

It’s all happening at the moment, with Manchester City revealing Pep Guardiola will take over the reins from Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season. More to follow on that story.

Unfortunately McGeady’s loan move to Wednesday will be knocked off the back pages now.

Interesting news from France where reports say Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy is on the verge of moving to Bordeaux after Arsene Wenger rejected an approach from Man United.

It’s been a busy hour all of a sudden as news of another done deal filters through.

Steve McClaren has been very active over the last couple of days and he’s added another new face to his Newcastle squad with the arrival of Ivory Coast international striker Seydou Doumbia from AS Roma, subject to the player receiving the appropriate visa.

The 28-year-old moves to St. James’ Park until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

A bit of Irish interest here with Oxford United boss Michael Appleton revealing former Dundalk striker Pat Hoban may be on his way out of the club on loan before the window shuts.

The 24-year-old from Galway has struggled for first-team opportunities since moving to the League Two side in November 2014. His time in England has been plagued by injuries.

The world has gone mad!

Stoke City are reportedly on the verge of signing French midfielder Gianelli Imbula for €24 million!

The 23-year-old midfielder only joined Porto during the summer from Marseille.

Arsene Wenger is “99 per cent sure” that Arsenal will not make any last-minute signings in the transfer window – unless Lionel Messi becomes available.

The Gunners brought Mohamed Elneny to north London in January in what has proved to be an otherwise quiet transfer period for the Premier League club.

Wenger does not expect to be heavily involved on deadline day but admitted he cannot rule out last-minute deals should exceptional players suddenly become available.

“The whole period was much quieter than I expected,” he told the media. “I’m one of the few who has done more business. I told you we’d do at least one transfer, I’d have been open to one more but there’s a rarity of players on the market. “A miracle can always happen. I’m 99 per cent sure [of no signings]. If Messi knocks at my door at ten to six, I won’t say ‘please go back to Barcelona’.”

Wenger confirmed Mathieu Debuchy and Serge Gnabry could both still leave on loan deals, with the France international likely to stay in the Premier League and Gnabry poised for a move to the Championship.

The BBC are saying Man United forward Nick Powell is close to signing for Hull City on a loan deal until the end of the season. A couple of departures from Old Trafford maybe, but no sign of any new faces.

This could well be story of the day! Steven Fletcher is on his way to France ahead of a switch to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille. The Sunderland striker has been allowed to leave the Stadium of Light by Sam Allardyce after playing just 10 games since October. Watch this space!

It’s very quiet at Liverpool’s training complex. Jurgen Klopp has just told Sky Sports News he doesn’t expect any movement at Melwood today.

“I don’t think something will happen in terms of incomings,” he said.

“I’m not sure what’s better for your job. So I can say maybe something happens or I can say the truth. No, you can finish work for the day. The outgoing side I’m not 100% sure.”

Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong will leave AC Milan with immediate effect after negotiating his exit from the San Siro.

De Jong has made only five appearances for the Rossoneri this season and was left out of Sinisa Mihajlovic’s squad for a 3-0 derby win over city rivals Inter Milan on Sunday.

A club statement read: “AC Milan announces that Nigel De Jong’s contract with the club has been mutually terminated today.

“AC Milan would like to thank the Dutchman for his determination, commitment and professionalism shown during his time with the red and black colours.

“We wish him all the success possible and all the very best for the next stage of his career.”

He has recently been linked with a move to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Could Shay Given be on his way out of Stoke?

The Ireland goalkeeper has hinted he may look to force a move through before 11pm to boost his chances of going to Euro 2016.

Speaking to the Stoke Sentinel, the 39-year-old admitted it’s unlikely he will replace Jack Butland in the side.

“I’ve got the European Championships to get right for and hopefully play some games for Stoke, but that’s not going to be easy because Jack has probably been our player of the season so far,” he  said.

“I’ve got to get match fit first, which will probably take a few weeks, then take it from there. The summer is massive for me and it’s important I get match fit and play a few games to show them I’m ready to get on the plane to France.

“It might be here or it might be on loan for a couple of months. The important thing is to make sure the knee is right and then maybe have a chat with the gaffer.”

Bad news for Galway native Pat Hoban with Oxford completing a deal to bring Scotland international Chris Maguire to the club. Manager Michael Appleton earlier admitted Hoban, who signed from Dundalk two years ago, is likely to be sent out on loan.

Hold us, the excitement.

Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique is in talks with Newcastle over a possible return to the club.

The defender has six months left on his contract at Anfield but the Express are reporting the Reds are prepared to let the Spaniard return to St James’ Park.

Jurgen Klopp has given up hope of bringing Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Alex Teixeira to Liverpool before the transfer deadline.

The Anfield side had earmarked the Brazilian forward as the ideal addition to their squad and the 26-year-old claimed they even tabled an official offer for him.

Shakhtar turned down Liverpool’s offer for the versatile attacker, though, and slapped a €50million price tag on their star man, which has proven beyond Liverpool.

“I am not sure what would be best for the journalists out here,” Klopp said at a news conference when asked about incoming transfers.

“I could say that something might happen or I can say the truth, which is there will not be incoming transfers. No, you can finish work for the day. “The players returning from injury are our new signings.”

Does this chap not have anything better to be doing on a Monday afternoon than stand in Heathrow Airport with this sign? Or is this tedious transfer deadline day set to explode with the most spectacular deal of all time?

We’ll let you decide that one.

Actual news!

Former Dundalk striker Pat Hoban has joined Stevenage on a month’s loan. He has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Oxford and moves to the side in 19th in League Two.

Stevenage are managed by former Man United striker Teddy Sheringham.

“Pat has done well, but for one reason or another he has not been able to get a run of games. It makes sense for him to go out, play matches at Stevenage and hopefully get a few goals as well,” Oxford boss Michael Appleton said.

Stoke have rejected a bid from Marseille for forward Peter Odemwingie, according to Sky Sports. It wouldn’t be deadline day without Peter Odemwingie.

Sky Sports say Jose Enrique’s proposed return to Newcastle has fallen through after talks broke down. The Spaniard is back training with Liverpool ahead of Tuesday’s game at Leicester.

Premier League leaders Leicester are keen to bolster their strike force with the addition of a new forward late in the day.

Sky Sports report the club are reluctant to meet CSKA Moscow’s valuation of £23 million for Ahmed Musa. Loic Remy and Mame Diouf are both also on Claudio Ranieri’s radar.

Manchester United fans, ahoy!

Alexander Buttner, remember him? Well he’s on the move again and has signed for Belgian side Anderlecht until the end of the season. The Dutch defender joined Dynamo Moscow on a three-year contract back in 2014.

Good evening, one and all! Ben Blake taking the reins as the countdown clock reads 4 hours 15 minutes. I can’t promise there’ll be one shred of significant news during that time but we live in hope.

so youre saying theres a chance

Super agent Jorge Mendes has certainly proved his worth to Radamel Falcao in recent years and The Telegraph are now reporting that the Colombian’s disastrous time in the Premier League could be over.

The Monaco striker was expected to end his season-long loan with Chelsea early and either head back to his parent club or move to China, but now it seems his former club Atletico Madrid could offer an alternative escape route.

Fine work, Jorge.

Thankfully, fans wielding inflatable objects appear to be a thing of the (recent) past on Sky Sports, but that isn’t the case on Italian TV where this reporter lost it after being continuously prodded by a giant banana.

Here’s a bit of transfer news for Celtic fans. The Scottish Premiership champions have signed 29-year-old Turkish international Colin Kazim-Richards from Feyenoord on a two-and-a-half year deal.

The much-travelled London-born striker has also had spells with Brighton, Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Bursaspor and Olympiacos.

More Watford deals being done. They have picked up exciting Venezuelan teeneger Adalberto Penaranda from Udinese but he will be loaned straight back to Granada where he is spending the season.

All three club are own by the Pozzo family.

Big signing in the Championship as 25-year-old striker Jordan Rhodes is joining Middlesbrough from Blackburn Rovers for around £11m (€14.5m).

Bit of a random one – Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher has done a Joey Barton by jumping ship and moving to Marseille on loan.

Hello, Paul Fennessy here taking the reins from Ben Blake.

I’ll be bringing you all the developments up until the window’s closure and beyond.

Sky Sports News report that Leicester won’t be signing anyone today.

So those Loic Remy rumours have come to nothing, apparently.

Mathieu Debuchy’s loan move from Arsenal to Bordeaux has been confirmed in the last hour.

Meanwhile, in more Gunners news, Serge Gnabry is likely to go on loan to a Championship club, but probably not tonight, as loan deals to lower-division sides do not have to be completed by this evening.

Nick Powell, who has made two appearances for Man United this season, including as a substitute in their 3-2 Champions League defeat against Wolfsburg, has joined Hull City on loan.

Looks like any deal involving Berahino isn’t going to be happening again this window, despite Stoke, Newcastle and others being linked with the highly-rated striker…

Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has joined Charlton on loan.

The 23-year-old forward has only played 10 minutes of competitive football since September, after joining Ajax on loan in the first half of the season.

Another interesting signing from an Irish perspective, with Shane O’Neill joining Cambridge United from Cypriot side Apollon Limassol on loan.

The defender, son of former Cork GAA star Colm O’Neill, was born in Ireland but has represented USA at underage level.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Remi Garde is considering his Aston Villa future following Villa’s lack of deadline day activity.

West Bromwich Albion v Aston Villa - Barclays Premier League - The Hawthorns Source: PA Archive/Press Association Images

With less than two minutes remaining and little to no activity currently, it looks like a somewhat anti-climactic deadline day for these two…

It’s official! Deadline day has ended with a whimper, it seems.

However, there could still be a few more deals confirmed, so stay tuned.

Right, that’s all from us for tonight.

Thanks for reading and commenting, and stay tuned for more deadline day reaction on the site.
