Lynch and Lambe through to Olympic final

Sinéad Lynch and Claire Lambe came third in their semi-final.

IRELAND’S SINÉAD LYNCH and Claire Lambe have qualified for the final of the lightweight double sculls in Rio.

The rowers came third in their semi-final, in a time that would have won the other semi.

Lynch and Lambe were fourth after 500 metres, making their way to third by the halfway mark.

They were in second place with 500 metres to go in the race, but succumbed to the pressure of the Canadian team before the finish line.

The result was enough to earn them a place in the Olympic final, however, and puts them in strong contention for a podium place.

Lynch and Lambe will have less that 24 hours before the final, with the race scheduled for 14.32 Irish time tomorrow.
