Mixed fortunes for Irish stars as Josh Cullen continues ACL comeback

Striker Johnny Kenny limped off for Preston North End after pulling up with a suspected hamstring injury.

THERE WERE MIXED injury fortunes for Republic of Ireland players in action in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Josh Cullen continued his comeback from an ACL injury with his second appearance off the bench for Burnley in their 1-1 draw away to Queens Park Rangers.

The midfielder’s return to fitness could see him included in the Republic of Ireland squad for the final two Nations League games this month. Manager Heimir Hallgrímsson will announce his selections for the fixtures away to Austria and at home to Kosovo this Thursday.

Striker Johnny Kenny is now likely to be forced out of contention after he limped off after just 13 minutes with a suspected hamstring injury in Preston North End’s 3-2 home defeat to Sheffield United.

Preston teammate Andrew Moran completed his first 90 minutes of the season while Tom Cannon featured for the Blades but did not get on the score sheet.

Chiedozie Ogbene also earned a start for Lincoln City as the Imps fell to a 1-0 defeat at Watford.

The Cork native was withdrawn just after the hour mark
