THE SECOND DEFENCE of Anthony Joshua’s IBF heavyweight title will be against American Eric Molina on 10 December, it has been confirmed.
Molina [25-3, 19KOs] will fill in as Joshua’s opponent at the Manchester Arena following the withdrawal of Wladimir Klitschko through a calf injury.
Klitschko had originally been pencilled in to fight Tyson Fury last weekend but that bout was called off by Fury, for a second time, towards the end of September
Joshua [17-0, 17KOs] won the IBF title with a second-round knockout of Charles Martin in April before completing an impressive seventh-round TKO win against Dominic Breazeale, another American, at London’s O2 Arena in June.
Molina had previously been mooted to fight 2008 Olympic bronze medallist David Price on the Joshua-Klitschko undercard but he has now been upgraded to the main event.
The Texan has won his last two bouts since falling to a knockout defeat in a WBC heavyweight title fight with Deontay Wilder in June 2015.
Katie Taylor’s second professional bout is expected to be on the Joshua-Molina undercard following her debut in Wembley later this month.
