Irish Grand Slam winner named on World Rugby's Sevens referees panel

Joy Neville continues to rise through the refereeing ranks.

FORMER IRELAND INTERNATIONAL Joy Neville has been named on World Rugby’s referees panel for the Women’s Sevens Series.

The Grand Slam winner, who turned to refereeing after calling time on her 11-year playing career in 2013, is one of 12 officials selected for the 2016/17 season.

While it’s the first time Neville has been included on this particular panel, she has already gained considerable experience having risen through the refereeing ranks with great success.

The Limerick native took charge of her first Women’s Six Nations fixture last March and ended the season by running the line in a couple of Guinness Pro12 games.

Neville, a Rugby Development Officer at Limerick Institute of Technology, is one of five former internationals included in World Rugby’s list, which was whittled down from 60 nominations.

She has also been appointed to officiate the November International between France and USA next month.

The 2016/17 Sevens Series begins on 2 December with the first round being staged in Dubai.
