Lacey back in Donegal starting team to face Mayo next Sunday

The 2012 Footballer of the Year has been named to start at centre-back on Sunday.

KARL LACEY IS back in the Donegal team for Sunday’s All-Ireland senior football quarter-final showdown with Mayo in Croke Park at 4pm.

Lacey will start at centre-back after coming on as a second-half substitute in last weekend’s round 4 qualifier victory over Laois in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The 2012 Footballer of the Year has been hampered with injury this season and underwent a hip operation at the end of last year’s campaign.

He featured in the Ulster final loss to Monaghan last Sunday week and will now man the defence against Mayo.

Lacey replaces Declan Walsh at centre-back on the team in the only change from the win against Laois.

Mark McHugh continues to be marked absent from the starting fifteen after suffering injuries early on in the loss to Monaghan with his younger brother Ryan getting the nod to start again at centre-forward.

DONEGAL: Paul Durcan; Paddy McGrath, Neil McGee, Eamonn McGee; Frank McGlynn, Karl Lacey, Anthony Thompson; Neil Gallagher, Rory Kavanagh; Ryan Bradley, Ryan McHugh, David Walsh; Paddy McBrearty, Michael Murphy, Colm McFadden.
