KEN DOHERTY WILL take the narrowest of leads into tonight’s final session against Ryan Day at the World Snooker Championship qualifiers.
The Dubliner, world champion in 1997, leads Day by five frames to four as he bids to make his return to the Crucible.
Up against the world number 20, Doherty started the final qualifying round as the outsider but took three of the opening four frames to race into a 3-1 lead.
Day pinned him back to 3-3 but then squandered a chance to take the lead when he missed a pink to snatch the seventh, allowing Doherty to close out the session with a one-frame lead.
The match resumes at 5pm.
