Irish defender in line to join Kaka at Orlando City

The former Norwich City man looks set to be the next Irish player to feature in the MLS.

THE IRISH PRESENCE in the MLS is on the verge of increasing, with Kyle Callan-McFadden currently involved with Orlando City.

Callan-McFadden has been without a club since he was released by Norwich City during the summer, but he looks set to resume his career in the USA instead.

It’s understood that the Irish U21 international defender has impressed recently while training with Orlando City, who are managed by former Everton and Burnley midfielder Adrian Heath.

A spokesman for Orlando City confirmed to The42 that Callan-McFadden is training with the club but was unable to clarify his contract situation.

The transfer window in the MLS is now closed but — as a free agent — Callan-McFadden would be allowed to join the club outside the window.

A 20-year-old native of Donegal, Callan-McFadden made one Capital One Cup appearance for Norwich last season and was also a member of the Canaries side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2013.

Callan-McFadden wouldn’t be the first Irish player to represent Orlando City. Sean St Ledger joined the club in March but was released in August due to ‘a serious breach of club policy’.

Orlando City’s talisman is Brazilian playmaker Kaka and the side are currently one point adrift of the play-off places in the Eastern Conference with two games remaining in the regular season.
