NEWBRIDGE WILL PLAY in the Leinster Schools Cup semi-final for the third consecutive year after seeing off St Andrew’s 13-5 in their quarter-final at Donnybrook today.
St Andrew’s also featured in the final four in 2014 so both sides were continue their recent good form in the competition. Newbridge struck first with second row Brian Larkin powering over after collecting a five metre lineout.
Larkin’s second row partner Mike Joyce was obviously jealous of his colleague’s success because he too crossed for a five-pointer and although St Andrew’s scored a try of their own, the Kildare school held on to record the win.
In Munster, Rockwell moved onto the semi-final stage after a 14-6 win over Limerick school St Munchin’s.
A converted try in each half proved the difference for the winners with Michael Casey crossing after 24 minutes and Mikey Wilson adding the final touch late on. Both scores were converted by Bill Johnston but Munchin’s could only offer two second half penalties in response.
In the other Munster Senior Cup quarter-final today, Ardscoil Rís pipped CBC Cork 18-16 with a last-gasp penalty to give Limerick schools one win on the day.
