Sexton, Heaslip and Reid made the Leinster Schools Cup draw last night
THE DRAW FOR the 2016 Leinster Schools Cup was made by Johnny Sexton, Jamie Heaslip and Noel Reid at the House of Lords on College Green last night.
Last year’s Senior Cup winners, Cistercian College, Roscrea, have been paired alongside Kilkenny College in the first round while beaten finalists Belvedere College will face Newbridge.
Blackrock College’s quest for a 69th crown will begin against one of the Vinnie Murray Cup finalists while one of the ties of the round sees 2012 winners St Michael’s face St Andrew’s College.
The six traditional powerhouses at senior level were joined in the pot by the schools who qualified through the league campaign and two further qualifiers from the Vinnie Murray competition.
In the Junior Schools Cup, defending champions Blackrock will go head-to-head with St Mary’s College with the two finalists from the Fr Godrey Cup earning a place in the main draw.
Setanta Sports will once again show live coverage of selected games from the senior and junior competitions before broadcasting the latter stages in full.
The final of the Senior Cup is scheduled to take place on Sunday 13 March at the RDS while the Junior Cup decider will be staged at Donnybrook three days later.
