Good afternoon!

Hello, everyone, and welcome to The 42′s live coverage of Leinster’s Champions Cup semi-final against Toulon at the Aviva Stadium.

Gavan Casey here, and if you can’t make it to Landsdowne Road or you don’t have access to the game on Premier Sports 1, I’ll bring you the relevant updates as Leinster seek to return to European rugby’s showpiece.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday so far.

Kick-off is at 3pm.

Lovely eye contact here between Toulon skipper Dave Ribbans and Leinster counterpart Caelan Doris.

Kick-off

1′ — LEIN 0-0 RCT: Tomás Albornoz gets us underway at the Aviva!

3′ – LEIN 0-0 RCT: Leinster win a scrum penalty on the Toulon 10′!

Thomas Clarkson on Jean-Baptiste Gros. What a start for the Ireland tighthead!

Leinster opt for three points from a central position.

4′ — LEIN 0-0 RCT: Oofft. Harry Byrne — 89% from the tee in this competition — pushes his central, 40m kick wide right.

That’s an early opportunity missed by the in-form out-half.

8′ – LEIN 0-0 RCT: Melvyn Jaminet misses a long-range effort of Toulon’s own. Both kickers off the mark early.

10′ – LEIN 0-0 RCT: No discernible pattern to the game yet — it’s loose and frantic and scrappy.

Try for Leinster! Leinster 7-0 Toulon

13′ – TRY FOR LEINSTER! JACK CONAN!

Converted by Harry Byrne!

13′ – LEIN 7-0 RCT: Harry Byrne found the gap, Gibson-Park picked the pass, and Conan scored on the big stage as he so often does!

15′ – LEIN 7-0 RCT: Robbie Henshaw took a big blow to the head in an attempted tackle and he’s down receiving treatment. It was a heavy collision and Henshaw won’t be able to continue here — Luke Pearce even stopped the game due to the severity of it.

Jamie Osborne awaits on the touchline. Henshaw will officially go off for a HIA, I think, but that’s his day done for certain. Poor fella.

Leinster 7-3 Toulon

16′ – LEIN 7-3 RCT: Jaminet slots a pen from around the Leinster 10′, left of centre, to put Toulon on the board.

Apologies, but I didn’t actually see what led to the penalty! Let’s call it ‘an infringement at the breakdown’ — but Toulon have three points, of that much I’m certain.

Disallowed try for Leinster!

20′ – LEIN 7-3 RCT: Leinster have a try ruled out — Jamison Gibson-Park just about knocked on at the base of a ruck before sniping between the posts from close range!

So close.

20′ – LEIN 7-3 RCT: Andrew Porter was so explosive in the lead-up to that disallowed score for Gibson-Park.

Leinster’s attack is starting to look dangerous!

Leinster 7-6 Toulon

24′ – LEIN 7-6 RCT: Caelan Doris is pinged for an illegal poach and Jaminet, from somewhere in the region of 50 metres centre-right, splits the posts.

Toulon have barely been in this game but they’re hanging in there.

Aaand to make matters worse for the hosts, Harry Byrne kicks the restart dead. Scrum for Toulon on halfway.

27′ – LEIN 7-6 RCT: Andrew Porter awarded the scrum penalty on Kyle Sinckler!

Leinster, now, with a lineout well inside the Toulon half.

Great start from a scrummaging perspective by Leinster — a penalty apiece for their props.

Their lineout attack just outside the Toulon 22′, however, ends with a forward pass by Doris.

Try for Leinster! Leinster 14-6 Toulon

32′ – TRY FOR LEINSTER! JOSH VAN DER FLIER!

A spell of Leinster pressure leads to a five-metre penalty, from which the hosts produce a bit of a Leinster special.

It’s back row Van der Flier who crosses and downs the ball near the posts before he’s later held up — a clear score.

Byrne converts and Leinster lead by eight points at the Aviva!

Yellow card for Andrew Porter (Leinster)

36′ – LEIN 14-6 RCT: Porter is binned for a high tackle after successive Leinster penalty concessions.

Toulon kick to touch from within Leinster’s half: their lineout maul is among their biggest strengths.

Another Toulon penalty advantage — but they’re going to get in for the try!

Try for Toulon! Leinster 14-11 Toulon; yellow card for Harry Byrne (Leinster)

37′ – TRY FOR TOULON! Seta Tuicuvu! Leinster 14-11 Toulon.

Toulon make use of their numerical advantage and flying Fijian Tuicuvu scores in the right-hand corner.

Harry Byrne is also binned for an infringement in the build-up — Leinster had been on a team warning.

A huge moment for Toulon. Leinster are down to 13!

But Jaminet’s conversion trails wide.

Half-time: Leinster 14-11 Toulon

With Porter in the bin, Leinster bring on Jerry Cahir for Rieko Ioane for a scrum — and Cahir is immediately awarded a penalty on Kyle Sinckler, haha!

But Gibson-Park taps the penalty and kicks the ball off the field to yield half-time.

A really sticky five minutes for Leinster to end that half — yellow cards for Andrew Porter and Harry Byrne and a Toulon try which has reduced the deficit to three.

Leinster will begin the second half with 13 men, at least for a couple of minutes — they were by far the better side with 15.

A huge half ahead in this semi-final.

Second half

41′ – LEIN 14-11 RCT: Thirteen-man Leinster get us back underway. Around six to seven minutes left on the cards.

Leinster 39 minutes away from another Champions Cup final. Buckle up!

Yellow card for Teddy Baubigny (Toulon)

43′ – LEIN 14-11 RCT: An incredible start to the half by Leinster, who roll it to within a foot of the Toulon try-line before being stopped.

Toulon hooker Baubigny is binned for a very similar offence to that of Porter before half-time!

And Leinster will tap and go from five.

Try for Leinster! Leinster 19-11 Toulon

44′ – TRY FOR LEINSTER! GARRY RINGROSE!

Incredible by Leinster! They score through Ringrose as their early pressure in the second half tells.

Ringrose has to attempt to convert his own score as Harry Byrne remains in the bin — but he skews a makeable kick.

Still, Leinster lead by eight at the Aviva as Andrew Porter returns from the bin: 14 v 14 for the next minute or so.

45′ – LEIN 19-11 RCT: Byrne back on for Leinster — they now have the numerical advantage with Baubigny now in the bin for the visitors!

Scott Penny on for Josh van der Flier, too, who took a bang along the way — likely a HIA, that one.

Leinster 22-11 Toulon

47′ – LEIN 22-11 RCT: Leinster win a third scrum penalty, this time against a seven-man Toulon pack. It’s Porter on Sinckler, who looks disgusted with Pearce’s interpretation of things.

No matter for Leinster: Byrne dinks over another three points!

55′ – LEIN 22-11 RCT: It’s all Leinster at the moment — but Jack Conan has just limped off. He’s replaced by Alex Soroka.

60′ – LEIN 22-11 RCT: Toulon have had very little to offer in attack except for when Leinster were down to 13 men.

Leinster’s defence has been otherwise exceptional.

Harry Byrne, though, spurns a chance to stretch Leinster’s lead to 14 — his kick from 40 metres trails right.

Try for Leinster! Leinster 29-11 Toulon

67′ – TRY FOR LEINSTER! CAELAN DORIS! YOU CAN NEARLY START BOOKING YOUR FLIGHTS TO BILBAO, LEINSTER FANS!

The skipper, who’s been totemic, stretches to score after a period of incessant goal-line pressure by Leinster.

Harry Byrne converts and the lead is out to 18; there’s surely no way back for Toulon from this juncture.

Try for Toulon! Leinster 29-18 Toulon

72′ – Try for Toulon! Baptiste Serin. Leinster 29-18 Toulon.

The replacement scrum-half dummies and scores after a lineout attack by the visitors.

A try out of nothing, really, and it still feels as though the hill ahead of Toulon is too steep to climb as we enter the final seven minutes.

74′ – LEIN 29-18 RCT: Caelan Doris — the undeniable man of the match — wins a turnover on the ground but Harry Byrne kicks out on the full from outside his 22′.

Toulon lineout — and now a penalty — just outside the Leinster 22′.

An attacking opportunity for Toulon seven metres short of Leinster’s line.

Try for Toulon! Leinster 29-25 Toulon

77′ – TRY FOR TOULON! THEY’RE RIGHT BACK IN THIS! What the hell?

I’m not sure who got it, but Jaminet has split the posts once more with the conversion — and Toulon trail by just four points with just over three minutes to go.

Leinster need to wake up!

77′ – LEIN 29-25 RCT: Gael Dréan cuts loose but Rieko Ioane forces a knock-on with an excellent defensive track-back — that’s a potential match-saver by the All Black.

Jesus, this is tense now, out of absolutely nowhere.

I jumped the gun thinking the game was over at 29-11, and Leinster may have done the same!

But they have a scrum in their own half with just under two minutes to go.

79′ – LEIN 29-25 RCT: A no-arms tackle by Tomás Albornoz on Jamie Osborne and Leinster have a penalty! That’s huge!

Leinster lineout with 40 seconds remaining.

Leinster fans, you’re almost there!

Full-time: Leinster 29-25 Toulon

LEINSTER ARE GOING TO THE CHAMPIONS CUP FINAL!

Thanks, all!

Well, that turned into a bit of an epic.

Leinster hang on in the end to book their place in Bilbao, where either Bordeaux or Bath await.

Thanks for joining me for live updates. Murray Kinsella will have a full match report and reaction from the Aviva, so keep an eye on The 42 for that.

Enjoy your day, Leinster fans!
