BARCELONA TOOK ANOTHER step towards the treble this evening as they beat Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final.
Having already sealed the La Liga title, Luis Enrique’s side completed the domestic double tonight and Lionel Messi, who else, sent them on their way.
Having picked the ball up on the right touchline, the little magician weaves his way past three defenders, and then another, before firing low past Iago Herrerin from a tight angle.
Just magic.
It’s Messi’s 56th goal in 55 matches for Barcelona in all competitions this season and he added another to seal a 3-1 win.
Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar then set history by breaking the Spanish record for most goals scored in a single season by an offensive trio.
They’ve scored a combined 119 goals this term.
Messi’s opener equalled the previous mark set by Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain for Real Madrid in 2011-12.
Sixteen minutes later they claimed the record all for themselves when Neymar benefitted from some excellent build-up play between Messi and Suarez to double the lead at the back post.
