THE LIONS ARE hunting for their first series win in 16 years but they are being closely tracked by a band of merry, female supporters.
A group of rugby-mad Irish women are following the team on their quest to defeat Australia and they have drawn up a scoring list to make the journey all the more interesting.
Roisín Farren, one of the Lions fans responsible for the Waltzing O’Driscoll flag, reveals that a purely playful scoring list was drawn up in the early hours. Irish, Scots, English and Welshmen all feature but the number one target is a British & Irish Lions player.
While a regular, pasty Irishman merits three measly points, a divine, athletic rugby star is worth 1,000,000 points – enough to win the game hands down.
“It was a 5am joke list,” Farren explains. The troupe of lady Lions supporters, she insists, are more than happy to pose for photos with their rugby heroes and cheer themselves horse at the Test matches.
She added, “We have met a good few of the players so far at the team hotel, including Conor Murray and Simon Zebo, or walking around Brisbane and Melbourne. They are all great for having a chat and getting in for pictures with fans.”
A helpful tip for the girls: Tom Croft’s fiancée Harriet Maule took part in a gruelling cross country, obstacle course fundraising run, back in May, called the Tough Mudder Challenge.
