London 2012: Introducing... Laura Reynolds

The 23-year-old walker will compete in her first Games in London.

Event: 20km walk

Who is she? Kildare born but living in Leitrim, Laura Reynolds will represent Ireland in the 20km walk at her first Olympic Games.

The 23-year-old is coached by fellow Irish Olympian Colin Griffin, is a member of Mohill & District AC and will compete alongside Olive Loughnane in the event.

Road to London: At the IAAF Challenge, held in Coruna, Spain in June, the recently-graduated DCU student obtained an A-standard by recording a personal best and finishing with a minute to spare in 1:32:37.

What she says about herself: “I’m delighted I’ve qualified for the Olympics!! But a lot thanks due to all the people who helped me get there.” (Twitter)

Medal chances: Will no doubt gain invaluable experience at her first Games and we’ll be cheering her on from TheScore Towers on August 11 but picking up a medal looks a step too far. Jimmy says… One.

On the Twitter: Get following her @laurareynolds89.

If you meet her at a bar, ask her… if she’s got a lend of a t-shirt or ten.

If she was a YouTube video, she would be... Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream
