Longford Town suspend player as part of match-fixing investigation

The First Division leaders are working with the FAI’s disciplinary control unit.

FIRST DIVISION LEADERS Longford Town last night confirmed that they have suspended one of their players pending an investigation into match-fixing.

In a brief statement released last night, the Airtricity League side said they had received information “which could be construed as conspiring to influence the results of matches.

“As a result of this information received Longford Town FC is obliged to notify the relevant authorities and conduct an internal investigation into the matter.”

Longford, who are due to host Mervue United this Saturday, stressed that they were being fully compliant with the guidelines set in place for such an occurrence and they have commenced an internal investigation. The first step of which was to suspend the player under suspicion.

The FAI’s disciplinary control unit last night also confirmed that an investigation was under way.
