A long way back for Mamadou Sakho as he starts for Liverpool's U23 team tonight

17-year-old Cork native Caomhin Kelleher is also included in the starting XI.

MAMADOU SAKHO HAS been included in Liverpool’s under-23 side for their International Cup clash with Wolfsburg at Tranmere’s Prenton Park this evening.

The French international has been frozen out by Jurgen Klopp since he was sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States for a breach of discipline.

Last weekend, the 26-year-old took to Snapchat to vent his frustrations at his treatment before subsequently removing the ill-advised messages.

Klopp has remained relatively tight-lipped regarding how he’ll deal with Sakho’s latest indiscretion but relations between the pair have only soured since the close of the transfer window.

The Liverpool boss urged Sakho to move elsewhere on a temporary deal to reignite his career but he stayed put instead.

It would seem repairing the damage is an impossible job but at least Sakho is back on a football pitch.

He’ll be rubbing shoulders with a host of Liverpool’s youngsters – including 17-year-old goalkeeper and Cork native Caomhin Kelleher – but it’s a start.
