Man City striker Guidetti left out of Sweden's Euro squad

Meanwhile, Johan Elmander has been selected despite doubts surrounding his fitness.

YOUNG STRIKER JOHN Guidetti has been left out of Sweden’s 23-man squad for Euro 2012, but the injured Johan Elmander has been selected.

The 20-year-old Guidetti, who is owned by Manchester City, had been strongly tipped to make the squad after an impressive season on loan at Feyenoord, but failed to make the cut because of an injury.

However, Elmander, who suffered a suspected serious foot injury in Galatasaray’s goalless draw with Fenerbahce at the weekend, has been included in coach Erik Hamren’s squad.

“Our doctor Leif Sward estimates that there is a big chance that Elmander will be back to full fitness for the matches at Euro 2012,” Hamren said.

“The injury he has is the best one can get, if one has a fractured foot. He can walk on it already.”

“There was no chance that Guidetti would be able to take part due to an injury.”

Sweden have been drawn in Group D with hosts Ukraine, France and England. Prior to the tournament, Hamren’s men will play two friendly matches, against Iceland and Serbia.
