Snapshot: Donegal's Mark English brings home the bronze from European Champs

The 21-year-old made the podium in the 800m and also helped the 400m relay team set a new national record.

AFTER WINNING A bronze medal with a terrific performance in the 800 metres at the European Championships Mark English was always set to be the hero of Ireland’s European Championship week.

English finished the two-lap distance in 1:45.03 before also contributing to the men’s 4 x 400m relay team that set a new national record time of 3:01.47 to claim fifth place overall with a time that historically would have put them on the podium, the Donegal man’s place was assured.

World walking champion was among the rest of the squad to come through Dublin airport today, the Corkman was unable to double his tally of European Championship medals as he did not finish the 50km.
