FORMER KILKENNY SELECTOR Martin Fogarty has been tasked with overseeing the development of hurling at a national level, the GAA announced today.
The six-time All-Ireland winning assistant to Brian Cody has been appointed to the newly established role, which was recommended by the Hurling 2020 Committee.
Fogarty worked alongside Cody between 2005 and 2013 having managed the county’s U21 hurlers to All-Ireland titles in 2003 and 2004.
His new role will involve working towards the delivery of the Hurling 2020 Committee report findings and Fogarty will also focus on developing hurling in five counties, namely Westmeath, Carlow, Offaly, Laois and Antrim.
“Hurling has always been my life and I’m delighted and honoured to have appointed as National Hurling Development Manager,” he said.
“There is tremendous work taking place in the development and promotion of hurling around the country – not all of it being recognised and not all of it yielding trophies.
“But I want to shine a light on the work that is being done to grow the game and to support it and also work to ensure that hurling has a great future.”
Fogarty will begin his role at the end of August.
