TOMÁS Ó’SÉ AND DESSIE Dolan didn’t quite know where to look on Sunday evening as former Donegal star Martin McHugh told a strange story relating to the time when Seamus McEnaney was in charge of the Monaghan footballers.
Recounting a story he was told from 2007, when Kerry beat McEnaney’s Monaghan by just a point in the All-Ireland quarter-finals, McHugh embarked on something of a ramble.
“I remember telling you a story way back,” McHugh said to host Des Cahill.
“‘Banty’ McEnaney played against Tomás’ (Kerry) team with the Monaghan team.
“They got beaten by a point and put up a good performance.
“He (McEnaney) was down in Kerry on holidays afterwards and there was this fella in the pub drinking.
“He says, that’s a good team you have there but they’re very small.
“Banty says ‘you know what you’ll do, send the Kerry women up to Monaghan.’
“Your man says ‘well, they’ll have to be pregnant before they go up!’”
Get it? We didn’t either.
