WITH TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR boss Mauricio Pochettino sitting alongside his agent, Pat Dolan, at the Aviva Stadium, in-form Shane Long proceeded to open the scoring against the Netherlands tonight.
The goal was pretty scrappy – the Southampton attacker forcing home from close-range after John O’Shea’s header had been brilliantly saved by Jasper Cillessen.
But, it’s yet another positive for the 29-year-old who enjoyed the best season of his career with Southampton.
Rumours are circulating that Liverpool are keeping an eye on Long and with Pochettino in attendance at Lansdowne Road, it only shows just how well-regarded the Tipperary native is.
A solid showing in France this summer would surely lead to increased speculation about a move elsewhere.
